WOODSTOCK ART STUDENTS' LEAGUE
Young artist E.J. Gold was photographed in the back of the Woodstock Art Association's ASL, or Junior Art Student's League, summer of 1953; many young students are now world-famous artists, having studied with the likes of Paul Arndt, Doris Lee, Bob Angeloch, Ed Chavez, Lynfield Ott, Walter Plate, Jane and Manuel Bromberg, Sigmund Menckes, William Ames, Dachine Ranier, Bruce Currie, Ethel Magafan, Reginald Wilson, Alexander Archipenko, Dorothy Varian, Gwen Davies and many, many others, from the days when there were more trees and fewer tourists, without a gift emporium, antique shop, cd outlet, deli or takeout within decades, back when art seemed to be a permanent part of the American Way of Life, not just another excuse for marketing.
